Jazz times. Please watch in HD!
Although this is improvised and has pseudorandom elements I think it's more of a track than a sound experiment. I spent a few days setting this up and you have no idea how fun this is to play with! That is a slight problem in itself - I spent ages going off on tangents and painting myself into corners I couldn't play out of, or not getting back after a roll to the synth pad, or hitting the wrong note when I did etc. Basically I need to get much better at playing the drums! :(
How It Works: Kick goes into synthmaker. When it's hit it exceeds the threshold of the envelope follower, which then steps randomly through a defined array of midi note messages. This means when you kick the drum it plays a random note out of a scale on an instrument (chinese zither).
Also my pad is hooked up to a kind of piano synth patch I made.
Note: I apologise for my knee injury appearing on camera, didn't think of that! :O I focus on the audio...
