Long standing leaders in Ogden, Reverend Theresa Novak and Anne Spatola, are recognized for their advocacy and spirituality. Theresa serves as minister for the Universalist Unitarian Church of Ogden and Anne has facilitated many community projects. Together they have a long history of leading by example. An important part of their 37 year relationship has been raising their 3 children and 3 foster children. Anne and Theresa were the first lesbian couple in Marin County, California to be registered as foster parents.
Anne & Theresa have served LGBT community in many ways—helping to set up Gay/Straight Alliances (GSAs), establishing HIV/AIDS outreach programs for Social Security disability benefits, and growing the Utah's OUTreach Resource Center into a vital important community organization. Theresa and Anne were at the forefront of efforts that led to passage of Ogden municipal ordinances. Because of their tireless dedication, unyielding compassion, and refusal to quit, Ogden City residents are now protected against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in housing and employment.
