June 4, 2011. Relatively short but steep hike (gaining 2500+ feet in a little over 2.5 miles) to a fantastic viewpoint.
This location is on the east side of the North Cascades, near the town of Mazama, WA. The trail is the Driveway Butte trall. Its trailhead is located at Klipchuck campground off of Highway 20 west of Mazama. About 2 miles up the trail one enters a short ways into burnt-out forest and then leaves the trail to the east, cross-country up to the high point of the ridge, elevation 5545 feet above sea level.
Best done late May to late June; soon after the snow is gone there is no water.
Lots of wildlife in this area; if one is traveling and camping quietly here they are bound to see it.
