MeTro (methacryloyl-substituted tropoelastin) is a highly elastic and adhesive surgical hydrogel that can seal wounds without the need for sutures. MeTro sets in just 60 seconds once treated with UV light, and can be modified to determine how long the sealant lasts. The solution was successfully tested on the arteries and lungs of rodents and the lungs of pigs.
