This is a brief review discussing the use of a torque multiplier in an effort to remove a stuck or frozen bolt or frozen lug nut. I review the advantages and disadvantages of torque multipliers. These devices use a compact planetary gear set to gain mechanical advantage, without the bulk of a long cheater bar.

Frozen bolts can release explosive energy when they come loose or break, so be sure to use safety glasses and take appropriate precautions. Because of the severe stress on sockets and adapters, use sockets etc designed for high impact. Torque multipliers are generally not designed to be used with impact air tools.
