Professor Eric Herring (School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies) received the 2014/15 Engagement Award for his work on the Somali First (SF) initiative.

SF uses evidence generated by his ESRC-funded Transforming Insecurity (Trinsec) project to create a way of promoting Somali-led development.

SF is a cross-School initiative, co-produced with staff from Somali-led company Transparency Solutions and students from the University of Bristol.

It brings together Somali civil society, government, business, academia and diaspora to transform the process of development. The project has developed a model of engagement which shows genuine co-production.

The diverse strands of activity, the many partnerships and the high level of impact make it an excellent example of engagement linked to research.
