"Hotaru" ホタル - Quite possibly the only Japanese remix of Owl City's "Fireflies" performed by Kirby Henry, pianist Ryan Jones and drummer Matt Butler, each of whom are bright young artists in their own right. While there are a gazillion covers and remixes of "Fireflies" this is perhaps the ONLY Japanese cover of the song.
It's a video mashup-remix collaboration of sorts inspired by Kirby's unique musical talents. After seeing his unedited cover of "Fireflies" (which he had fully translated into Japanese himself) I found two exceptional musicians, Ryan Jones and Matt Brown, who I thought would be ideal accompanists to Kirby's vocals. I merged the three individual video tracks into one, adding a few effects, audio and video enhancements, and titles.
A Minnesota native, Kirby Henry is an up-and-coming gaijin tarento who now resides in Hamamatsu, Japan. He is an aspiring songwriter-singer who happens to be exceptionally fluent in Japanese, and has written numerous original songs in the language. I hope his talents will not remain undiscovered by a Japanese record label or talent agency for long.
