Video of Inline Instructor "Hea-Jeong, Hwang" demonstrating the Classic Inline Technique (ie. NOT the "double-push" skating technique for inline, but more the ice speed skating technique)

This skating technique embodies many details that needs to be paid attention to in order for one to execute them correctly:

(a) start with both skates closed to each other and side by side (about 1 or 2 inches apart)

(b) knees bending at 90 degrees (and keep them bent throughout)

(c) knee caps position forward to just beyond toe

(d) hips & upper torso should be lowered with back rounded (do not straighten or arch back)

(e) while in tucked or lowered position, push skate direct to the side on the heel of the skate, while keeping the head tilted up, and eyes looking direct to the front.

(f) weight transfer (side to side movement, go all the way until nose-knee-toe aligns)

(g) set down (new supporting skate - try to land skate on a slight outside edge)

(h) skate recovery starts (pushing skate starts D-Shape arc to close in towards support skate)

(i) skate recovery ends (ampersand position - brief pause here for rest for long distance strides, but do not emphasize this if you are sprinting or skating fast cadence)

(j) proceed with next push by free falling sideways at the same time

(k) repeat from step (f) again

(l) proper arm swings that match the pushing skate, etc. (ie. arm on the side of the pushing skate should be forward while the other arm swings back, and arm swings should be front to back, not side to side, and should be natural)

Here is a video called "Classic Push: The Fall" that could help explain the parts better:

Another related video called "Classic Skating" with instructors Barry Publow and Eddy Matzger could explain more about how this elegant skating technique can be done properly:
