In addition to shooting down prey with a well aimed jet of water, archer fish also jump to capture prey and now a detailed analysis of the fish's launch strategy reveals that they depend on their fins as well as their tails to become airborne and that a jump consumes similar amounts of energy to a dash to catch a victim that was downed by a jet of water.
