Visit http://www.charliejames.weebly.com for a portfolio of my work and more information on the car. This hydrogen fuel cell powered city car was designed and built by Aston University students. The urban concept was entered in the 2012 Shell Eco Marathon where it competed against over 200 teams across europe and won the Eco design award. The vehicle focuses on sustainable concepts, one of which is to reduce inner city pollution. The volume of pollution within cities is increased with congestion which is mainly caused by the lack of parking spaces. The urban city concept can park in 50% less space than a standard hatchback using a unique folding mechanism that shortens the wheelbase to less than that of a smart car, allowing it to park end on.
