How many "feminisms" are there? What does Arab feminism look like?

This first of two sessions examined women's movements in the Middle East and their relationship with their sisters in the West and asks what are the core issues that affect women's lives everywhere?

Can common cause be made to deal with them?

And what is the role of feminism in the Middle East in these times of revolution?

The panel included SOAS professor Nadje Al-Ali, journalist and author Victoria Brittain, journalist and comedian Shaista Aziz, and author of Sex and the Citadel Shereen El Feki.

Chaired by Ahdaf Soueif.
