This webinar took place on 1 December 2016, and aimed to collect views on a proposed cooperation with Reveal Digital on their Independent Voices innovative crowdfunding initiative.
Reveal Digital’s ‘Independent Voices’ is a collection of North American alternative press periodicals published during the 1960s, ’70s and ‘80s. This collection is being developed and published under an innovative library crowdfunding open access model, which pools money contributed by libraries to clear rights, digitise and host humanities collections aggregated from many institutions.
To date, 96 libraries in the US have funded this project ranging from four-year liberal arts colleges to the largest, most prestigious research universities, including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, University of Michigan and the University of California.
Reveal Digital would like to invite UK higher education (HE) institutions to contribute to its Independent Voices collection and expand its scope. Half of the amount pledged by UK HE libraries will go towards the digitisation of UK alternative press content for inclusion in Independent Voices, and UK-pledging libraries will be able to set the content priorities.
