Janie Burns raises grass-fed lamb and pastured poultry on her 10 - acre Meadowlark Farm south of Nampa, Idaho. Over the past 24 years, she also has raised a wide variety of crops and sold to restaurants CSDs and retail stores. In 2003, she and a business partner began HomeGrown Poultry, LLC, a poultry-processing business in New Plymouth, Idaho.

In addition to her faming and business ventures, Janie is on the board of the Treasure Valley Food Coalition and the advisory committee of the University of Idaho's Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. She has previously served on the board of Rural Roots and the Idaho Department of Agriculture Organic Advisory committee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of Idaho and was named the college's Distinguished Alumni in 2009.

She was keynote speaker April 11, 2013 at a pastured poultry workshop in Hamilton, Montana. The workshop was presented by the National Center for Appropriate Technology, Mission Mountain Food Enterprise Center, and Salish-Kootenai College. It was funded by the USDA Risk Management Agency.
