@utmilliaison - The University of Toledo (http://www.utoledo.edu/call/military/) is a military friendly school for the fourth consectutive year, and they recently dedicated a permanently unoccupied seat in the Glass Bowl football stadium in honor of military service personnel who were or are prisoners of war (POW) or have been declared missing in action (MIA).
A big thanks to Rolling Thunder®, Inc, MA Chapter 1 and Hussey Seating Company for their support of the dedication prior to the Rockets football game against Navy, Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.
The ESPN commentators had this to say.
Ryan: Before the game, nice moment as Toledo dedicated this seat to the Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action in our armed services. Nobody will ever sit in that seat, and Toledo actually the first collegiate team to give this honor, certainly appropriate on this day with Navy in town.
Pete: not only appropriate, but I would suggest that every college across America decide that this is a great decision and they want to copy this whole idea and let's get this around the rest country. Just an absolutely fabulous idea and a great way to show some thanks to the POW-MIAs.
