This is about ghosts: real ghosts and real people.
This event took place on a warm summer's evening back in 1977 on the island of Guernsey situated in the Channel Islands. This piece is an excerpt from my forthcoming autobiography called "Bach's the name: Survival's my game" which I've written under my maiden name Rosemary Bach. My life story is full of contrasts and contradictions. It encompasses ghosts, as you're about to discover, World War II Resistance, a young and beautiful princess, my father's godmother, and a celebrated, famous and wealthy comedic playwright, my grandfather. As a family we experienced emotional disturbances, tragic accidents and poverty.
My father grew up surrounded by aristocrats. One of his closest friends was Claus Schenk Von Stauffenberg the man who tried but failed in blowing up Hitler as depicted by Tom Cruise in the hit film "Valkyrie". Yet, there was a time in our lives when we were so poor we had to cover the splintered floorboards in our tiny rented flat with sheets of newspaper as we couldn't afford any other type of covering be it a rug or a piece of carpet.
