"The Pentagon is the only department of government that is not even subject to audit. Since 9/11, the Pentagon's budget went up by two trillion dollars. One trillion went to the wars, but nobody knows where that other one trillion went. The air force has been scaled back, the navy has been scaled back, the army has been scaled back, and yet, we have over a trillion in new spending. Where did that money go?.... It's not just that they threw a lot of money out the window, it's the way that they do it that we take issue with. They've got political engineering whereby once a program gets going, it doesn't matter if the enemy it was made for no longer exists or it doesn't work as intended.... Once military spending gets started, it can't be stopped.... The Pentagon always vastly overstates what new spending can do and the spending never lives up to expectations. Conservatives say they want to cut government spending, but whatever they Pentagon says they take like holy scripture. It's a recipe for bankruptcy."
