Our newly adopted German Shepherd puppy, K.T., is a fireball with enough physical and mental reserves to keep even an active couple in overdrive. So we found a used treadmill and in just less than 24 hours, she's up to 2 kilometers an hour. Not breaking a sweat yet, obviously, but well on her way to staying active. I demonstrate each of the steps I used from first introduction to reasonably consistent walking. This is an example of clicker training that, even when not done perfectly by an amateur, can deliver impressive results. 2014 UPDATE: Please don't use this as a good example of marker training. I am clicking too often and at the wrong times as well as talking WAY too much. I have stopped using a clicker for a verbal marker. It is far more convenient. And reviewing this video I am surprised KT learned as fast as she did with my inept training. I have since trained dogs in half the time to go more than twice as fast. Of course starting with stronger nerved dogs helps a lot too.
