This special medley begins with the head-turning "Home" from The Wiz taken from Marilyn McCoo's own Broadway Medley, a stand-out feature of her concert act circa the 90's. We pair it thematically with "No Love In the Room," the sentimentally popular single from The original 5th Dimension's 1974 penultimate album, SOUL & INSPIRATION. The two not only join to make a touching statement but signify both a tribute to Miss McCoo's upcoming birthday on September 30th and a "Champagne Soul toast" to the enigmatic John Florez who produced "No Love" and gives a rare and in-depth interview for our globally-popular Blog-Magazine FOREVER 5th DIMENSION in our next issue due September 26th at http://www.myspace.com/thesoulofvoice Says John, "When I listen to the tune today, it still pleases me a lot. Now, I don't do God's work, meaning I don't second guess His decisions about the eventual launch of Marilyn & Billy's careers away from the group, but it is sad to me that 'No Love' wasn't a big hit. I was hired to come in and bring the momentum of my number one hit with The Hues Corporation, 'Rock the Boat' to The 5th Dimension. Hit or not, it didn't get much better than working with The 5th, they were truly the 'real deal.'"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISS McCOO--DIVA OF INTEGRITY
by Robert-Allan Arno

"I've never worked on the smoothness of my voice, that's my natural quality...but as far as phrasing is concerned, a song is a story to tell," gently proclaims Marilyn McCoo. One entranced "back in the day" critic called the alliteration of her name alone, "simply delicious!" Another wittily praised, "When it comes to delivering a torch song, McCoo should be arrested for arson!" And this "quintessential lady," as producer of the seminal SOUL & INSPIRATION sessions, John Florez recently dubbed La McCoo, has never failed to tell the story...in her beguiling music, in her message as a woman of artistic excellence and deep personal faith. 5th mega-producer Bones Howe states, "With music, Marilyn has something she does...that she communicates...it's a very female thing...and she should not stop doing it...it's hers for life! But most of all, she's a real person...hard to find in this business." Back to "the story," note that Marilyn's indelible solos from the playful "Wedding Bell Blues," to the classic "One Less Bell to Answer," from the mystical "Love's Lines Angles and Rhymes" to the poignant "If I Could Reach You" all tell a different story. "I believe in never resting on my laurels," Marilyn told me at our very first interview in the '70's. Indeed, Jimmy Webb observes, "One of the most beautiful women I've ever seen, Marilyn never ceases to surpass herself." Dorothea Joyce, author of the aforementioned "Love's Lines," a personal fave tune of Marilyn's calls McCoo "today's Lena Horne meets Judy Garland." Neil Sedaka crowned Marilyn "the singer's singer." And her hubby of 41 years, Mr. Billy Davis, Jr. endearingly marvels at Marilyn's astute articulation on the spine tingling "Never My Love," a hit 5th "Marilyn solo" she masterfully re-executes on the duo's latest CD, THE MANY FACES OF LOVE. He beams, "I just love the way she pronounces the words!"

Recovering fully from a hip injury that temporarily sidelined her this past spring, Marilyn is back on stage with Billy, as graceful as ever, bringing us the songs of our life...the love songs...The 5th Dimension hits...the Marilyn & Billy tours de force...the inspirational "People Get Ready" moments...her re-envisioned "One Less Bell" from the heart and soul of life experience. Marilyn & Billy are also working on a follow-up to their popular memoir that will focus on marriage and relationships. "People ask us when we'd consider retiring," Marilyn recently mused, "We don't foresee that happening for a long, long time!" With that statement, on the occasion of her upcoming birthday, leave it to Marilyn to give the gift right back to her legions of fans the world over.
