The countdown is on: two weeks until the 2012 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. What's that you ask? Did we qualify for Kona through our incredible athletic prowess?
Please. Did you see our last Ironman finish times? The last time I crossed an Ironman finish line the qualifiers in my age group had gone back to their hotels, showered, changed clothes, taken a nap, eaten dinner, and returned to the finish line with a cold beer in their hand as I crossed the finish line.
But qualifying isn't the only way to make it to Kona, is it? No, we're not going to Kona as athletes this time around, but rather as part of the musical entertainment.
That's right, you heard me. The Super Bowl gets Madonna, Black Eyed Peas, KISS, and Janet Jackson. The Super Bowl of triathlon gets, well, us. And while we can't promise a pyrotechnics show to rival KISS's half-time show, our shows do generally run an abnormally high risk of a Janet Jackson-esque "wardrobe malfunction" or two so we've got that going for us.
See you in Kona!
Comprised of amateur runners, triathletes, cyclists, adventure racers, and musicians, Ironband writes original (mostly) music that touches on a variety of racing and training-related themes spanning multiple musical genres (some that don't even exist yet) that is must-have for any dedicated endurance sports athlete.
