14 September 2012

In observance of the National Peace Consciousness Month, President Benigno S. Aquino III led the formal launch of the "I am for Peace" campaign in Malacañang with celebrities, athletes and business partners advocating for peace and a progressive nation.

Black Eyed Peas singer apl.de.ap, local celebrities and singers Anne Curtis, Gerald Anderson, Epy Quizon, Megan Young, Mikael Daez, Ramon Bautista, Christian Bautista, Datu Khomeini Bansuan, Noel Cabangon, Gloc 9, Ebe Dancel, Igi Boy and Kiray were named as National Peace Ambassadors.

Sportsman Rovilson Fernandez, Philippine Azkals team members represented by Aly Borromeo, Arnold Galang and Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines led by JC Buendia also took their pledge as National Peace Ambassadors. Derek Ramsay, Karylle, Sam Concepcion and Kimpoy Feliciano were also named peace ambassadors but were not present during the occasion.

The President, together with Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita 'Ging' Deles and Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon 'Dinky' Soliman, also led the presentation of plaques to the following organizations as Business Partners for Peace: ABS-CBN, Golden Arches Development Corporation, M Concepts and Style, Philippine Seven Corporation, Zest-O Corporation and Liwayway Marketing Corporation.

The "I am for Peace" campaign seeks to engage all sectors of society in sustaining support for the country's peace process. It will also mobilize social activities and information dissemination especially on the significant achievements made on the ongoing Mindanao peace talks.

This year's Peace Month theme, "Ako. Ikaw. Tayo. Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa sa Kapayapaan" sends the message that each Filipino has a stake in peace, regardless of culture, religion and location.
