Tony Ferguson demonstrates how to trim a guinomi or tea cup on a clay chuck.
Instead of trimming directly on the wheel head, trimming off a clay chuck provides internal support while not altering or putting pressure on the rim of the form which usually results in distortion after the firing. I usually reserve the last hump of clay when throwing off the hump and fashion it into a clay chuck. The moisture content of the hump turned chuck matches and grips the interior of what I am trimming. Try it. You'll like it.
