A 9 year old with good handwriting solves this 2 step word problem.

Sam bought 5 sets of phone cards. Jane bought 2 more sets than Sam. If there were 5 cards in a set, how many phone cards did Jane buy?

Solution is by a 9 year old. She is in grade 4 so the problem is simple and indeed it was done mentally in less than 3 minutes.

This basic word problem demostrate the use of bar models.
