A basic lateral tarsal strip procedure is described. I was trained in Iowa, and taught this technique by Jeff Nerad and Keith Carter. Rick Anderson popularized this form of lateral canthal tightening. This procedure is a 'workhorse' in oculoplastics and is used in both entropion and ectropion repair. The use of the lateral tarsal strip in cosmetic eyelid surgery has become less popular in recent years as surgeons search for more elegant methods to support the lateral canthal angle (see internal canthoprexy video). Nonetheless, the lateral tarsal strip procedure remain one of the fundamental procedures in eyelid reconstruction.
