I met the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Fats Domino when I was the emcee on two shows he performed at the 1978 Pensacola Interstate Fair. He invited me backstage to his dressing room between shows and that gave me the opportunity to hang out and get acquainted with this iconic Rock & Roll pioneer. My wife was with me and, being the true Louisiana gentleman he is, Fats referred to her as "Miss Portia" when I introduced them. By that time he was relaxing in his silk boxers and an undershirt as it was a very hot day. I asked Fats if he would do "My Girl Josephine" in the second show as, out of all of his tunes, that was my favorite. He had not done it in the first show. Sure enough, in the second show he stopped the band and told them he was going to do "Josephine" and nodded and winked at me. Fats never left his home neighborhood in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans and suffered tremendous losses from the post Hurricane Katrina flooding including many irreplaceable items and memorabilia. "We lost everything" he told the Washington Post. Today, he has rebuilt and returned to his home neighborhood and occasionally plays engagements in the area. I hope you enjoy the video by the Rock & Roll legend and my story that goes with it. Please share the link.
