When one gives one should not give it to an individual monk but (in your mind)you should give it to the entire sangha with the Buddha at it's head. Giving to an individual personalizes the gift to just that one person whereas giving to the entire Sangha with the Buddha at its head makes it much more pure.

This short sutta describes the effects of meritorious acts. Even giving food to an animal gives you merit equal to 100X that gift. Listen to how the giver and the receiver purify and affect the results of the gifts. Gifts do have results! Generosity does have great benefit for you in your daily life and your meditation practice.

Thank you Bhante for the sharing. I now have more understanding on the subject of giving.
