Resolution in support of saving Sensata jobs in Freeport

Whereas, approximately 170 workers at the Sensata plant in Freeport are due to lose their jobs by the end of the year; and

Whereas, those jobs are being outsourced from Freeport to China; and

Whereas, many of those workers have worked at the plant in Freeport for up to forty years; and

Whereas, some of the Sensata workers have had to train the workers from China who are replacing them; and

Whereas, losing 170 jobs will hurt Freeport's economy and cause pain and suffering in our town;

Whereas, Freeport needs good quality jobs to stay here in Freeport; and

Whereas, Sensata is owned by Bain Capital, the firm that Gov. Romney started, ran, and still is invested in; and

Whereas, Gov. Romney has toured small towns talking about creating good jobs; now therefore, be it

Resolved, that the Freeport City Council supports the Sensata workers and calls on Mitt Romney to come to Freeport to meet the people directly affected by Bain Capital's outsourcing and to step in and stop the outsourcing of these jobs from Freeport to China.
