Leymah Gbowee, director of AJWS grantee Women Peace and Security Network-Africa (WIPSEN), has won the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize. Leymah was awarded the Nobel Prize in recognition of the pivotal role that she played in bringing an end to Liberia's devastating 14-year civil war. She spoke about her work as a peace activist and the director Of WIPSEN, an organization committed to promoting women's leadership and peace building, at AJWS's 25th anniversary celebration in October 2010.
