A behind-the-scenes view of how our scientists and analysts detected the last nuclear test conducted by North Korea on 12 February 2013. The seismic shockwaves from the 4.9 magnitude event were detected, processed and distributed to Member States even before North Korea announced that it had conducted the test. This allowed Member States to reach a clear assessment and universally condemn North Korea’s action.
