A normal vector is a line segment extending away from the original line at a 90-degree angle. The equation for normal vector of a line can be used complex trigonometry functions, but it can also be calculated by simply reversing the X and Y coordinates of a line.
Normal line calculation is an essential part of a game engine collision detection library component. And with this new addition to our library, calculating perpendicular lines equations has never been easier!
By finding perpendicular vectors, we are enabled to do some really interesting things as far as game development goes. For example, it can be used to determine which side a segment (or a wall in a game world) is pointing in. It is extensively used in collision detection and physics engine algorithms.
