Tommy Simpson (30 November 1937--13 July 1967) rode away from the mining town of Harworth in North Nottinghamshire, to become a professional cyclist.

In 1967 Tour de France, he was the undisputed leader of the British team. On the 13th stage of that race, he collapsed and died during the tortuous ascent of Mont Ventoux.

This is the 'Ballad of Tommy Simpson', a folk song that was written, so that his story is never forgotten ... finally immortal!
