Johann Nepumuk Hummel - Gesellschafts-Rondo in D Major, Opus 117, for Piano & Orchestra.
The piano soloist is Howard Shelley and the London Mozart Players..... The orchestra's declamatory opening bars lead to an expressive, at times eloquent, piano melody. But the mood relaxes during a linking passage. The tonality changes to the major and the soloist, after some exciting flourishes, begins the high-spirited rondo. Among the many enjoyable features of this piece are the telling, sometimes dramatic modulations and the finely crafted piano writing. It was published in 1829.
