Tech hubs are springing up around the globe, with Vietnamese capital Hanoi the latest city to make a bid to develop its own startup ecosystem. The initiative is being spearheaded by Vingroup, Vietnam’s biggest private sector company.
To conduct the initial research into building a tech hub Vingroup sent a delegation to Silicon Valley to take part in an SVIC executive immersion program. The four-day experience included presentations, Q&A sessions and workshops with a range of leading Silicon Valley companies including Google, Facebook and Cisco.
For That Van Lihn, the head of Vingroup’s VinTech city initiative, coming in person to Silicon Valley provided insights which would have been impossible to get anywhere else.
“It gives you a better, more tangible feel,” she said. “We can take a lot of these key learnings, these real details and real life situations and try to synthesize that into something that would work in Vietnam.”
