When in Iceland, this is one of those must see / do places, just 30 minutes from the capital, Reykjavik. The water appears so blue because of the white silica sand on the bottom. The original founder worked at the geothermal plant just behind & discovered that when he applied the white silica sand mud to his skin, his psoriasis cleared up, so he opened this up to the public. The water comes out of the ground at 160F / 71c & is mixed with the colder water of the nearby clean clear water ponds to get the warm 100F / 38c temperature of the Blue Lagoon. It is located in an active geothermal area of lava fields ... in the video you see nothing but black rock around, but now having been all the way around Iceland, I can tell you it is one of the most beautiful, magical & enchanting countries I have ever seen with it's 24 hour daylight in the summer, volcanos, geysers, steam vents, hot springs, pools and streams, bubbling sulphur mud pools, glaciers, forests, fjords, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, rugged coasts, beaches, mountains, valleys, green meadows, plains & deserts. It is a combination of England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada & the USA all rolled into one place. The people speak Icelandic which is actually an old Norwegian dialect, but almost all also speak English, which makes this a very easy & friendly country to navigate in. It is also rated as the safest country in the world. If a visit to this unique country is not on your "bucket list", it should be ... there are so many things to discover here every day of your trip!
