The crown jewel of our region’s commercial real estate is the IDS Center. At 57 stories it dominates our skyline with a unique design that accommodates 32 corner offices on every floor. Built in 1971 and designed by Philip Johnson, John Burgee and Ed Baker, the design still is an icon of modern architecture.

The Crystal Court, located in the IDS Center, has been called the single finest enclosed space in commercial architecture. It functions as both gathering place and a hub for retail.

There’s more than 130 tenants in the IDS and the variety may surprise you. Yes, there are lots of law firms and financial services firms, but Mattel Toys leases space in the IDS as does Crayola. Overseeing all the operations of the IDS for the last 21 years is general manager Jim Durda.

Jim is joining us this morning on what you might call a farewell visit. He’s leaving IDS for Zeller Realty group.
