Idaho First District Congressman Raúl Labrador's Self-Sufficient Community Lands Act (H.R. 1294) was considered at a hearing of the House Natural Resources Committee's Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation this week. H.R. 1294 would replace the expired Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program in certain rural communities by allowing local control of some forest lands, creating jobs, generating tax receipts for counties and addressing forest health. At the hearing, Congressman Labrador questioned United States Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell.
