Cleft grafting - repair

A newly developed orchard was maliciously vandalized over night after just being planted. Approximately 5500 trees were either cut off above the bud union or kicked off (causing more damage), with 6 ha. of a 10 ha. paddock being damaged. About 3000 of this number required grafting to repair the damage. Severely damaged trees were cut below the original bud union and a cleft graft placed, while those with some of the bud union in tack have been left in the hope they will regrow. The results are looking promising three weeks on.
