"Journey. The word alone immediately calls up all sorts of memories and associations, both old and new, in all its manifestations. It's one of the great metaphors of life. The journey down the yellow brick road. The journey on the road to romance. On the road away from romance. The journey to finding oneself. The road less traveled.

When Carol Welsman decided to do an album devoted to the pleasures (and perils) of journeying, there was no problem finding the right tunes. If anything, it was harder to decide what to leave out from the long list of possibilities that she discovered. Add to that the fact that Carol's linguistic ease opened up numerous potential sources of songs from other languages. And, inevitably, whether the song was in English, French or Portuguese, the prime difficulty lay in having to answer the recurrent question: "Oh, no! How can I leave that out?"

There was, of course, no satisfactory solution other than, perhaps, to record a five-disc collection of songs. And since that wasn't within the realm of possibility, a few personal favorites -- of Carol, the musicians and, no doubt her listeners -- had to be left out. But the real plus is what was included. And how Carol, Pierre Coté, Marc Rogers and Jimmy Branly found such uniquely appealing ways to transform so many familiar songs into such sparkling new interpretations."

- From the liner notes by Don Heckman
