This is a Classic Crested Butte Downtown Home. Famously known as The Porch House.. Paul & Antonia Panian built the Porch House in the late 20's to make more room for them and their three sons, Paul, Mike and John.
Dad and his sons were hard working coal miners and mom was a great housekeeper and gardener. At that time they were able to buy several town lots, build an elegant comfortable home with a big yard for a spacious lawn and gardens, which still today is very unique here in Crested Butte. Mrs Panian could be seen everyday during the summer months tending her 12 flower beds and large kitchen garden. (I have a wonderful photo showing all this) Her raspberry patch along the front of the house is still producing very tasty berries each year in August. In the 50's the Panians sold three town lots on the east end of their yard to Leroy and Mary Cesar who built a fishing cabin and still own it today.
Current Owner bought the remaining property in 1984 from John Panian's nephew who inherited the home. Over the next several years he remodeled first the kitchen, next the back wing, and finally the front rooms and upstairs. During this process he gutted the whole house, updated everything, changed the layout and this has provided me a very comfortable home in Crested Butte's the Historical Core. He planted a row of evergreens along the front and lilacs along the back for some privacy, keep the lawn and flower bed beautiful, and have a thatch arbor for outside dinning during the summer.
The biggest cotton wood in CB shades the yard nicely during our warm months. The Seller is offering the Porch House for sale to downsize to a smaller home.
