Stephen Cornish on the hopes and fears he encountered in the displacement camps of South Sudan

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Canada’s Executive Director, Stephen Cornish, recently came back from South Sudan, where he met some of the people directly affected by what has become one of the world’s worst humanitarian emergencies.

Since the outbreak of a civil conflict last December, more than a million people in South Sudan have been forced to leave their homes. Many are crammed into tiny protection camps, guarded from some of the worst violence without but exposed to desperate living conditions within. MSF is providing badly needed medical care in some of these camps, and working around the clock to prevent devastating outbreaks of disease.

Stephen visited the MSF hospital at the civilian protection camp outside Bentiu in South Sudan. He discusses the people he met and the inspiration he took from MSF’s tireless and dedicated field workers in the video above.
