How does meditation help us achieve a state of balance? Each of us has, our very own personal universe that is made up of our inner world and our outer world. So much of our time is spent meeting the needs of our outer existence that few of us take the time to pause and listen to the needs of the world within. Our inner needs like - love, bliss, joy, contentment, peace, stillness are fundamental to our well-being and our evolution. When we begin to practice meditation, we become more sensitive to our inner universe. Along with the pressing demands of the outer world we now begin to pay deeper attention to the inner needs. If we give attention, in equal measure to both these aspects of life, we start achieving a balance between the two. There is a gradual inclination towards perfecting this balance and the practice of meditation becomes invaluable to us in this effort. The best analogy for this is a bird or an airplane in flight. Each of the two wings represents the inner needs of the spirit and the outer responsibilities of life. If more weight is put on any of the wings, compared to the other, it starts moving in spirals. This applies to our lives too. Like with a bird or an airplane, it is the tail that helps us to maintain our balance. The tail represents our consciousness, which gets further refined with each session of meditation. We thus become more and more conscious, of all that serves our purpose and maintains our balance. This refined consciousness is paramount to achieving excellence in various aspects of our lives.
