During the last decade,a slow revival of the cosmopolitan nature of Alexandria can be realized after decades of quick decline of the city.Restoration of monumental buildings are going on,the remnants of the once active Greek community are very slowly recovering from the post 1960s events, the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina was constructed by UNESCO fundings. But,to say the truth, the Cosmopolitan era of this city will never come back,Alexandrians who left the city since 1961 have settled permanently in their new locations, most of them are elderly now.Alexandria means nothing to the new generations who may sometimes visit the city as tourists. Can a miracle happens and our Alexandria that we lived in and loved it return again?

In the heart of Alexandria, at Mansheia near Saint Catherine Square this main church of the Greek Orthodhox Patriarchate is found. The street itself is called Greek Church Street "Share' Al-Kaneesa Al-Younaneah". It is one of the landmarks of Alexandria not only religiously but also architecturally and culturally.

With splendour and emotion, but without the two men who inspired the project, the Patriarch of Alexandria, Petros, and the President of the Onassis Foundation, Stelios Papadimitriou, the patriarchal church of Evangelismos in Alexandria, Egypt was opened on 2 April 2006 following a renovation subsidised by the Foundation.
