Suddenly this video appeared on the internet, an absolute hidden gem from the VHS-era. It was a pilot for "The Jon Brion Show", a tentative setup which was pitched to VH1. The show was rejected, pilot disappeared and all these many years later the director, Paul Thomas Anderson, dug up the tape. Search up the video, it's worth watching in it's entirety!

It includes Jon Brion as our compere/collaborator, Elliott Smith performing on all the songs (aside from the two Jon Brion piano pieces that opened and closed the pilot in place of intro/outro music), Brad Mehldau adding some beautiful piano to "Independence Day" and "Bottle Up and Explode" before rushing off to catch a flight, and Dan McCarroll added percussion to "Bottle Up and Explode".

Why have I chopped up the tracks and re-uploaded them with a still shot in tow?

The version of "Independence Day" included just blew me away, and I wanted to have a copy of the audio for myself. When processing the audio from the YouTube video (sorry, this is the best source out there for this) I noticed there seemed to be an issue with the transfer, causing multiple drop-outs in the audio, two, three or four in each song. I've done my best to correct this and this is what we have here!

ENJOY! And all credit to those involved in making the original video, watch the entire performance whilst you can, it's worth it!
