As part of Shanti Devi Memorial Health Justice Lecture Series, on 11th August 2017, two speakers delivered the lecture on:

INTER-SECTORAL RESPONSE TO END TB
Speaker: Dr Sunil Khaparde, Deputy Director General (DDG), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; who is the head of India's TB programme;

BREAK THE SILENCE ON TB AND DISABILITIES
Speaker: Nandita Venkatesan works with The Economic Times and is a 2 time-intestinal TB survivor and patient-rights advocate. She lost over 90% of her hearing (profound deafness) due to a rare side-effect of a second-line TB drug. She recently gave a TEDx talk (www.bit.ly/nanditav) on her long ordeal and taking to Bharata Natyam dancing for healing.

GUEST COMMENTATOR was: Abia Akram, Focal Point, People with disabilities constituency, Asia Pacific Regional Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (AP-RCEM) and Asia Pacific Women With Disabilities

The lecture was chaired by one of the children of late Shanti Devi Shankhdhar who continues to champion health and social causes: Prof Rama Kant, WHO Director General's Awardee; former Chief Medical Superintendent of King George's Medical University and Gandhi Memorial and Associated Hospitals; 2012 President of Association of Surgeons of India; former Vice President of SAARC Surgeons and President of Lucknow College of Surgeons.
