Like its parallel series R&B Spotlight, Soul Breakout 59 continues its story (started last year) of rounding off the hits and displaying the development of soul music in the US charts from the chosen year.

1959 was a big year for the development of Soul Music with artists such as Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson doing a great deal to pioneer the sound whilst musicians like Ray Charles took it upon themselves to develop the form merging fifties R&B with gospel-powered vocals. These artists and more are featured on this new compilation which also has authored notes by the respected Record Collector journalist Mike Atherton. The track featured here is the almost beyond famous 'Shout' by the Isley Brothers.
