This is a 16 X 16 LED grid using the TLC5940 driver and two 595 shift registers. A small python script on the laptop uses PIL to do screen cap and scaling and sends the image to an atmel 328p via embedded ethernet on a tuxgraphics board. The 5940 does 4096 shades, but this is 8 bit, 256 shades scaled up to the 12 bits the 5940 needs. Each color value has a gamma/luminescence curve applied to it to help with perception problem with the PWM.
