Amelia Earhart Disappears (1937). The distinguished American aviatrix who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean disappeared in 1937. She was attempting to circumnaviage the globe in her Lockheed Electra plane.
Pathe have uploaded the newsreel that was shown in cinemas at the time because researchers have set sail to the South Pacific to try to solve the mystery of her fate (July 2012). Circumstantial evidence suggests that Amelia actually made land but died as a castaway on an island in the South Pacific.
Amelia was a much feted woman of her time and Pathe celebrated her achievements.
