While the completeness of death registration is over 95% in Sri Lanka, the quality of the cause of death certification is poor, which is key for health policy and planning.

About 42% of Sri Lankan deaths occur in the home, so to capture cause of death, local midwives are adding this data collection using tablets and family interviews to their list of regular duties.
