The "I.N.K.C" conducted a "Dog Show" at the "Bombay Veterinary college grounds" in Parel. A dog show is akin to a carnival where its an occasion to meet various dog owners and also get to learn about the different "Dog Breeds. When i joined the "Indian National Kennel Club" in 1980's there were 2 different "Dog Clubs" in Bombay, now Mumbai which conducted "Dog Shows" in Mumbai, 1) I.N.K.C(Indian National Kennel Club) and 2) K.C.I (Kennel Club of India). The "I.N.K.C(Indian National Kennel Club) was established in 1957 and hence the oldest kennel club of Mumbai. The "K.C.I(Kennel Club of India)" is the officially recognized Kennel Club of India, formed after the amalgamation of the various local Kennel clubs of India into a single club, the "K.C.I(Kennel Club of India)" in 1978. Recognized some old faces of my era at the "I.N.K.C club", most prominent being Mrs Ratty.Javeri, the secretary and one of the founder members of the "I.N.K.C" who hasn't changed with time and age, still managing the club, along with her daughter Freya.Javeri who is a "Show Judge" . Some old faces were missing, most prominent ,"The Rani of Jamkhadi' who would have a stall with her "Pedigreed Pekingese dogs" carted all the way from Pune for display at the show, typical "Old world Maharajah Royalty". Today , in 2010, i am no more involved in "Dog Ownership" having taken over to breeding and owning "Persian Cats", but, always make it a point to attend any "Dog Show" in any city if possible as it rekindles my memories of a bygone era of fun and competition.Today "Dog Ownership" has also become a "Rich Hobby" as some pedigreed dogs cost a equivalent of a "race-Horse", especially with "Imported Bloodlines" and "Championship Pedigree". The "9th Sieger Dog Show " held on 20th January 2007 , organized only for "German Shepherd dogs(Alsation)" by the the "German Shepherd Dog Club of India" which is a member of WUSV and affiliated to The Kennel Club of India (K.C.I)which i witnessed at the "Andheri Sports Stadium" in Mumbai exhibited "German Shepherd" show dogs costing lakhs of rupees with special "German Handlers" to display their beauty in the "SHOW RING".. "Dog Shows" in Mumbai was a social hobby in the 1980's or 1990's prior to "Economic Liberalisation 1992" of the Indian economy which converted a "Hobby" into an "Industry", akin to the abrupt "Real Estate" price rises in Mumbai city. .Almost every major city in India has its own "Kennel Club" , affiliated to the "K.C.I(Kennel Club of India)" which conducts "Dog shows" proving the popularity of dogs as "Status Symbols" as well as common pets in India.
