Good news -- it's what we hope to be able to give our patients and their families, what we look for in our research studies and something we all enjoy hearing. And, here at the Medical Center, we have so much of it to celebrate.
We're doing so many great things here at the Medical Center, and we should all be sharing this with one another, with our families and friends, and our neighbors. That's why I like to start each meeting with Good News. The Medical Center also features it in our publications, and every month on the OneSource homepage we post a summary of good news from the previous month recognizing the dedication and hard work of our faculty and staff.
Just last week we shared remarkable news about an incredible investment of $100 million in The Ohio State University by alumnus and Board of Trustees Chair Leslie Wexner and the Limited Brands Foundation. The majority of the gift will be allocated to the Medical Center and the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, with additional gifts to the Wexner Center for the Arts and other areas.
This gift -- the largest in the University's history -- is nothing short of transformational. It will help us continue our mission to improve people's lives in many important ways. I'd like to personally and publicly thank Mr. Wexner for this gift and for the leadership, dedication and commitment that he models every day. At the announcement of his gift, Mr. Wexner described his "But for..." story about Ohio State. But for Ohio State he explained, he could not have gone to college, started his business career, and become so successful. I think about my own "But for..." story. But for, Ohio State, in 1987 I would not have become a department chair, grown personally and professionally, and have been considered for other leadership roles like the one I'm privileged to have today. I'm sure so many of us have "But for..." stories about Ohio State.
We're part of an incredible university, and with that comes a great responsibility to be our best every day. We have good news to share because we're doing exceptional things. We're improving people's lives, making important discoveries and preparing our students to create and deliver the health care of tomorrow. I urge you to share our good news with others and create your own good news in your role at the Medical Center.
Well, have another great week.
