Tangible Orchestra is an interactive art installation created by Rebecca Gischel and Sebastian Walter, founder and CEO of technological art and design company Picaroon. Rebecca discusses her background in interaction design and Sebastian’s experience as a game designer and how this has influenced their approach to artistic and musical experience. Tangible Orchestra combines the participatory rules of gameplay with an immersive interactive space. 7 Cylinders are dispersed within the installation and each play a different musical instrument from individual speakers, which light up when they are activated by people standing near them. This means that how the music is produced and the music itself continuously changing. This exciting project employs 112 ultrasonic sensors, 7 boards, 7 car speakers, an Arduino Mega and relies on 3D printing in order to keep up with their continuous developments.
